20 Nov 2018 --- Pelican Biothermal, supplier of temperature-controlled packaging, is to partner with Wilpak Group International to offer its customers the option to utilize Wilpak’s thermal protection covers for the worldwide transportation of pharmaceutical payloads.
19 Nov 2018 --- Nestlé Waters North America has signed an agreement with rPET supplier CarbonLITE with the latter due to expand its US production by building a third recycling facility in Nestlé Waters’ local bottling region (Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania). The new contract builds upon Nestlé Waters’ existing relationship with CarbonLITE, one of the largest producers of food-grade, post-consumer rPET, and allow the beverage company to further expand use of recycled materials in its packaging. The company currently purchases rPET from CarbonLITE’s existing facilities in California and Texas.
19 Nov 2018 --- SECOS will seize operations at its wholly-owned subsidiary Stellar Films Australia. Plastic film manufacturing production will be transferred to SECOS’ Malaysian operations in a move which is expected to improve net profit after tax by more than US$0.9 million per annum, after the transition period has passed.

Two leading metal can suppliers, Crown and Ball, showcased the latest in their decorative techniques and connective technologies during BrauBevaile 2018 in Nuremberg, Germany, this week.

Boxed Bags have proven popular as they can offer a long shelf life to products while keeping liquids safe and preserving taste, the company describes. They also provide sustainability benefits as they can be flattened after use, therefore saving space in transportation.
16 Nov 2018 --- This week in packaging news, a lignin-based, renewable replacement for fossil-based materials from Stora Enso has received an innovation award from the Institution of Chemical Engineers. Braskem has reported strong third quarter financial results, with an increase of 30 percent EBITDA on the same period last year. DS Smith has been awarded the “UK Packaging Company of the year” title at the UK Packaging Awards and Corepla partnered with the Waste Free Oceans foundation to build a humanitarian shelter prototype with plastic waste collected along the river Po in Italy.
16 Nov 2018 --- The German Packaging Law will come into effect on January 1 and place stricter regulations on packaging, especially in regards to recycling and reuse. KHS is offering FreshSafe PET, which coats PET in glass, allowing the typically blended material juice and nectar bottles to be included in the pure PET cycle, to ease the costs that the law may bring to juice and nectar producers.
15 Nov 2018 --- DS Smith is delivering a revolution in the sustainable development of beverage packaging with Fillbee – a returnable pack made from post-consumer waste that fits inside reusable crates, yet can also be stacked without a crate. Fillbee can accommodate four or six beers and be adapted to any shape of bottle. The move follows the EU policy announced earlier this year that all plastic packaging on the EU market will be recyclable or reusable by 2030. PackagingInsights gained an insight into this new launch, set to hit the market in spring 2019, at BrauBeviale, held this week in Nuremberg, Germany.
15 Nov 2018 --- Proctor & Gamble (P&G) is set to launch a new fully recyclable e-commerce liquid laundry detergent pack on the US market in January 2019, which will be available through all major e-retailers. The compact and light Tide Eco-Box is a bag-in-box design which contains 60 percent less plastic compared to the current 150 oz Tide press-tap. Significantly, the Tide Eco-Box does not require any secondary packaging or bubble wrap, enhancing its credentials further as an eco-conscious e-commerce solution.
14 Nov 2018 --- Omega Design Corporation – a global provider of packaging machinery for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and consumer healthcare industries – has introduced its Econo Pouch Feeder, a portable cost-effective, non-pneumatic pouch inserter that feeds up to 150 desiccants or oxygen scavengers per minute. Requiring no air, the all-electric feeder is capable of single or multiple pouch drops per container and can dispense into bottles, trays and diagnostic kits.
14 Nov 2018 --- In a landmark discovery, scientists have for the first time detected plastic microfibers in the stool of wild animals. A team of Morris Animal Foundation-funded researchers at the University of Georgia found this form of microplastics in the stool of South American fur seals by examining droppings from pinnipeds. The team believes that this form of examination is an efficient way to monitor environmental levels of microfiber and microplastic in the environment. The study was published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin.
14 Nov 2018 --- A London supermarket has become one of the first in the world to introduce a dedicated Plastic Free Zone. In collaboration with A Plastic Planet, Thornton’s Budgens store in Camden’s Belsize Park took only 10 weeks to accumulate more than 1,700 plastic-free products, ranging from fresh fruit and vegetables to wild game meat including squirrel and wild boar. A range of plastic-alternative materials including beechwood nets, pulp, paper, metal, glass, cellulose and carton board are being used to package the products. Plastic-free zones are designed to introduce consumers to the concept of a plastic-free lifestyle.

The pack is linked to 100 percent plant-based renewable materials, mixed with conventional fossil raw materials to produce polymers.
12 Nov 2018 --- Creators of the Karma Push Cap Technology, Karma, have formed a collaboration with Aptar Food + Beverage, a global specialist in dispensing, sealing and active packaging solutions, to deliver instant-mix technology to a range of market segments focused on the rising trend of personalized, fortified nutrition. The collaboration believes that the cap has the potential to extend beyond beverage into other industries, including medical and pharmaceutical.
12 Nov 2018 --- Global metal and glass packaging specialists Ardagh has announced a 9 percent drop in profits while recording a 3 percent increase in revenue in its third quarter financial results. Overall revenue was recorded at US$2.39 billion, however profit prior to tax shows a 9 percent decrease (US$400 million). Lower earnings in glass packaging in the US and metal packaging in Europe, in addition to cost inflation, are reasons for the profit decrease.
12 Nov 2018 --- SNSTech’s latest launch, an all-aluminum, reclosable beverage called SipNShut, is said to tackle production, usability and sustainability issues that have thwarted the adoption of other reclosable can options in becoming commercially viable. Aside from a few major brands, reclosable can systems are not seen often on store shelves, the company notes.
