11 Oct 2018 --- Tetra Pak has launched Tetra Pak Plant Secure at its Inside Tetra Pak event held yesterday at the company’s headquarters in Lund, Sweden. PackagingInsights was at the event covering the launch. Tetra Pak Plant Secure is a plant management service that aims to deliver profitability improvements for its customers. Leveraging Tetra Pak’s investments in Industry 4.0 technologies, the service uses data-driven analytics and Tetra Pak’s industry expertise to identify and deliver improvements across a customer’s entire value chain.

This hopes to make it simple for consumers to scan large portions of the package to access product information and other engaging digital content, save space on packaging design and increase manufacturing efficiencies and reduce waste in the supply chain.

18 Sep 2018 --- GEA is expanding its D-tec valve line with the new GEA D-tec P/DV control valve for ultraclean applications in the food, beverage and dairy industries. This allows reliable control of process parameters such as volume flow, pressure, temperature and filling level of a vessel. Due to the hermetically sealing D-tec stem diaphragm, the valve is said to achieve a higher standard of hygiene. The company touts the valve as ensuring safety in the production of beer mixes, soft drinks, fruit juices, milk-based and lactic acid-fermented products or even sauces and to contributing to longer minimum product shelf life.
18 Sep 2018 --- From March 2019, Multivac will be offering a thermal inkjet (TIJ) printer in addition to thermal transfer overprinters (TTO) printers that will be able to be used in direct web printers as well as in label dispensers. 28 Aug 2018 --- Omron has acquired Microscan Systems, Inc from Spectris plc, for a total cash consideration of US$157 million (£123 million). Omron, manufacturers of factory automation systems and control equipment, hopes the move will benefit its technological capacity, including the Internet of Things (IoT), thereby strengthening its ability to offer “more comprehensive solutions such as traceability and verification to the packaging industry,” Nico Hooiveld, Market Manager at Omron Industrial Automation, tells PackagingInsights.

12 Jun 2018 --- The largest personal care factory in the Middle East and Africa – Unilever's site in Dubai – has had two comprehensive end-of-lines for production of shampoo and conditioner in shaped bottles implemented by Gebo Cermex. With this large installation, the global player in the consumer goods market was looking to use “state-of-the-art technology” that, combined with a modular design, claims to ensure faster, shorter and highly responsive production lines that production time. With eight formats to handle at 350 products/min per line and multiple changeovers per day in maximum ten minutes, Gebo Cermex was required to supply robotic product collation, shrink-wrapping and palletizing.
08 Jun 2018 --- Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo has launched a so-called “natural label” on a selection of its organic vegetables range, marking a move into the mainstream for the technology. The “natural label” is achieved through the use of laser technology that makes it possible to display the indication of “organic” directly onto the produce, without the need for additional packaging material. The method holds potential for further retailers who are looking to reduce plastic packaging and reduce their environmental footprint.
