Packaging Innovations/Luxury Packaging 2019 in London celebrated its 10th birthday, exhibiting a wide range of innovative, environmentally responsible new packaging designs. The major theme of the show was sustainability in the context of circular material economies and the debate centered around the contest between plastic packaging and plastic-free alternatives. The Plastic Free Land, led by A Plastic Planet, showcased several progressive, plastic-free paper-based suppliers. These suppliers intrigued visitors with demonstrations of some unique designs, including a plastic-free ice box, fish packaging, coffee cups and super strong reusable shopping bags. Meanwhile, leading plastic suppliers reminded visitors that innovation in plastic packaging design remains strong, with RPC M&H's spiral technique for cosmetic packaging and Schur Star System's Zip-Pop Bag standing-out. Luxury also took center stage, with the UK's only luxury packaging event bringing the industry together in a festival of branded, inspirational, prestige and bespoke packaging.
