Chamber pouches: Multiple compartments for multi-market appeal
24 Jul 2018 --- Sports nutrition specialist Arranti has launched Chamber Pouch, a stand-up flexible gusset pouch with up to three separate chambers, offering an ideal solution for selling combinations of two or more products that are typically used together or mixed.
The concept is uniquely suited for packaging and selling combos of two or more products which are normally sold together yet are usually expected to be used around the same time, to be mixed at the point of use, or to be combined in certain ratios and dosages. For example, mustard and ketchup or various sports nutrition products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, beverages, baby food, pet food and dairy products.
Regarding fitments, the pouches can have re-closeable zippers, spouts sliders, hook and loop, and spray triggers added. They can also be fitted with various types of carrying or hanging implements, ranging from top panel equipped with one or more finger-holes or hang-holes, to straps and/or handles formed into top panels or attached to the pouch at various suitable positions.
The flexible pouches are stand-up which, the company states, is incredibly durable and cost-efficient. When filled, the pouches will stand up vertically, yet when they are empty, they weigh very little and can be stored entirely flat – saving space for recycling purposes.
Perks of flexible packaging
Flexible packaging is one of the fastest growing segments of the packaging industry, according to the Flexible Packaging Association. It can add value and marketability to food and non-food products, from ensuring food safety and extending shelf life, to providing heating, barrier protection, ease of use, resealability and printability. The industry continues to advance at an unprecedented rate.
A key benefit of flexible packaging pouches, in the case of the Chamber Pouches especially, is the possibility for a range of fitments. Innova Market Insights notes a huge +135 percent growth in recloseable "on the go” beverages from 2016 to 2017. Such closures necessary for beverages include spouts. Furthermore, as awareness around food waste, plastics and the environment increases, strategies that can enhance recycling are desirable. Flexible packaging offers a number of sustainability benefits throughout the entire life cycle of the package, when compared to other package formats including: material/resource efficiency; lightweight/source reduction; transportation benefits due to inbound format and lightweight nature; shelf life extension; reduced materials to landfill; high product-to-package ratio; and beneficial lifecycle metrics.
Food and beverage producers, retailers and restaurants now have more ambitious goals than ever regarding sustainability which has increased the pressure on suppliers to create more effective and diversified eco-friendly packaging. In this way, the light-weight pro's that come with flexible packaging stand out sharply.
