Vegware Stirs Up Coffee Market With First Compostable Sugar Sticks

29 Nov 2012 --- Vegware, the compostable foodservice packaging pioneers, have launched the market’s first compostable sugar stick. This is the market’s first plastic free sugar wrapping. Like all of Vegware’s certified compostable disposables, these sugar sticks can be recycled together with food waste. This pack is also suitable for paper recycling.
Most sugar sticks use paper with an oil-based PE plastic lining so that the package can be heat sealed. Vegware’s sugar sticks replace the PE lining with a plant-based heat-sealable coating. That means that after use, Vegware’s sugar sticks can be recycled either with dry paper, or composted with food waste. The wrap is from FSC certified sources and is suitable for direct food contact.
Vegware invests in R&D, regularly bringing unique innovations to market. So far in 2012, the award-winning Edinburgh manufacturer has launched the first compostable wine glass, the first compostable glassine window bag for hot cabinets, and the first compostable clear domed lid for frozen yoghurt. Vegware has recently been honoured with its own Motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating the fast-growing Edinburgh SME on its achievements. Vegware has already won four awards so far in 2012: a regional award in the Chamber Awards 2012, a BCE Award for Environmental Leadership, a Foodservice Footprint Award and Green Company of the Year 2012.
