Weekly Roundup: RPC Group sells foodservice division for US$95 million, WWF volunteer event removes 10 tons of plastic from the Tisza River

RPC Group has sold all the assets of its foodservice business, Letica Foodservice, to Graphic Packaging Holding Company (GPK) for US$95 million. Japanese company Kao Corporation has announced that it will procure Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) materials for its packaging and Romanian dairy producer Prodlacta Brasov has appointed RPC Superfos to supply its plastic yogurt tubs. SA International has made its software certified for use with the HP DesignJet Z6610 and DesignJet Z6810 printers. The sixth edition of the WWF nature conservation volunteer event PET Cup was hailed as a success, with 10 tons of plastic waste being removed by volunteers.

RPC Group has sold all the assets of its foodservice business, Letica Foodservice, to Graphic Packaging Holding Company (GPK) for US$95 million. Letica Foodservice is focused on the production of paperboard-based cold and hot cups and cartons for the growing foodservice market in North America. Synergies from the acquisition will be driven by the integration of additional SBS paperboard tons, lower logistics costs and other cost efficiencies.

Japanese company Kao Corporation has announced that it will procure Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified materials as part of its efforts to support sustainable forest resources in collaboration with six other Japanese companies. Kao is committed to changing the paper and pulp used in its consumer products, packaging, and office paper to recycled or sustainably sourced versions by 2020. Kao Corporation’s portfolio includes the known brands: Attack, Bioré, Goldwell, Jergens, John Frieda, Kanebo, Laurier, Merries and Molton Brown.
Romanian dairy producer Prodlacta Brasov has appointed RPC Superfos as an additional supplier of plastic packaging. Prodlacta Brasov’s natural yogurt and cream products now come in two sizes – 1.18 liters and 5 liters – of the round UniPak pails with plastic handles, as part of a three-year deal. Available in versions containing 12 percent, 15 percent, or 20 percent milk fat levels, the prodcuts are aimed at both the retail and foodservice sectors.
SA International (SAi), a provider of software solutions for the sign making, digital printing and CNC machining industries, has made its market-acclaimed SAi Flexi software solution as certified for use with both the HP DesignJet Z6610 and DesignJet Z6810 printers. The certification helps ensure print providers and sign & display companies to streamline their workflow, increase their throughput and guarantee premium quality output for their customers. For users, this assures that the software will seamlessly integrate with their HP DesignJet printer without disruption to their print line.

Hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers took part in the sixth edition of the WWF nature conservation volunteer event PET Cup, aimed at cleaning up the Tisza River. The competition showcases custom built boats made of recycled PET bottles that are used to clean the river’s floodplain and promote environmental awareness. The boats have to meet a number of requirements, such as using only use renewable energy like paddles or sails. During the one week of the PET Cup the boats floated over 70 river kilometers, while volunteers on board removed 10 tons of plastic waste from the river and its floodplain.
