Scandic Food Switches to Superlock
The company chose to make a straight conversion from glass to plastic to make an immediate impact on consumers in Germany.
Sep 1 2011 --- Scandinavia’s largest producer of preserved fruit has switched to RPC Superfos’s awardwinning plastic SuperLock packaging for its stewed fruit range in the German market.
Scandic Food is the largest producer of jams, marmalade and fruit desserts in Scandinavia, and constantly develops products under the SVANSOE brand such as stewed strawberry, apple and cherry.
The company chose to make a straight conversion from glass to plastic to make an immediate impact on consumers in Germany. Benefits include reduced transport costs, no loss of shelf-life and enhanced on-pack branding opportunities.
And SuperLock caught the eye of Product Manager Claus Andersen at Scandic Food when the company was looking for ways to increase sales.
He says: "We wanted to bring something new to the German market and the plastic container SuperLock was a way to do it. Most of our competitors today use glass so the different look and feel you get by choosing plastic made sense to us.”
SuperLock is a plastic packaging with extremely low oxygen transmission rates. This is a result of a membrane seal combined with oxygen barriers on all surfaces. At the same time, the packaging withstands high temperatures so it is suitable for hot filling.
Claus Andersen adds: "It is excellent that the shelf life of SuperLock matches the one of glass and that we can use any part of the container for displaying our brand SVANSOE. The packaging allows us to send a signal of the high quality of our products that all offer great taste sensations.”
Scandic Food still primarily uses glass packaging but hopes to swap to SuperLock for an increasing number of food products. Packed in plastic, more SVANSOE units can be transported per truck load than before, reducing fuel costs.
To ensure trouble free filling of the new kind of packaging Scandic Food leases filling equipment from RPC Superfos. The filling and sealing machine developed by Grunwald is also highly appreciated by Scandic Food.
