Biodegradable claims proliferate amid fossil plastic reductions

Using biodegradable packaging is a strategy to align with the current trend of reducing plastic in the food and beverage industry. Food and beverage launches tracked with a biodegradable claim have grown with an average annual growth rate of +26% (Global, CAGR Nov 2016 - Oct 2017 to Nov 2020 – Oct 2021). Although hot drinks is the top category, biodegradable claims are being applied in more and more other food and beverage categories (Global, Nov 2020 – Oct 2021).
