Lift Bridge Brewing Begins Canning

Lift Bridge Brewing Company, Stillwater’s first craft brewery since Prohibition, announced that it will begin producing its craft beer in 12-ounce cans.

The decision was made based on production cost efficiencies and a desire to become more sustainable over time. The new cans will be distributed progressively over the course of summer 2018 to all markets where LiftBridge Brewing Company products are sold. As Lift Bridge Brewing Company increases its production to target a projected five-year period of growth at an average of 20% per year, the adoption of the 12-ounce can will allow the company to save an estimated 1,650,000 pounds in materials in 2019 and reduce overhead costs.

Recent technological advancements in the canning industry have significantly lowered breweries’ capital expenditures, and the canning process enables Lift Bridge to leave a much smaller carbon footprint due to lighter transportation and the cans’ recycling process. “The 12-ounce can production model is a perfect fit for Lift Bridge as we ramp up production, build a new facility and look to expand to new markets,” said Brad Glynn, Co-founder and VP of Marketing at Lift Bridge Brewing Company.

“Customers will still continue to enjoy the same great taste of Lift Bridge brews, and our industry research has shown positive reception of canned products among craft beer enthusiasts nationwide since they are more convenient and environmentally-friendly.” 12 ounce cans will steadily replace 12 ounce glass bottles over the course of the next six months. Lift Bridge’s signature brews, Farm Girl Saison and Hop Dish IPA, will be available in 12 ounce cans in six packs and 12 packs throughout all current territories by the end of July 2018, and other brews, including a 12 pack sampler, will be available by September 2018.

Specialty brews, such as the Commander Barleywine, will continue to be produced in a 750 ml glass bottle. 12 ounce cans also provide Lift Bridge design partner, Studio2, with a larger canvas in order to illustrate Lift Bridge’s brand image and continue to produce award-winning packaging. LiftBridge cans and packaging have received honors from The American Graphic Design Awards, The Davey Awards and The American Package Design Awards. Lift Bridge beers and sodas can be found throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin, and in Eastern North Dakota.
