Building on key trends like differentiation and premiumization, Coveris offers comprehensive solutions in innovative IML packaging by using various print and forming technologies. State-of-the-art technologies such as rotogravure, EB offset and HD flexo print with different varnish finishes allow high-quality label printing. In combination with injection moulding and thermoforming technologies they complete Coveris’ IML offering around tubs, pots and lids.
“The IML labels guarantee durability, flexibility and cost effectiveness, while offering sophisticated decoration with a large surface for brand communication, for instance with photorealistic illustration”, explained Romain Herve, Sales Director of Coveris Decorative Food & Consumer Europe. Yet another feature are the highly decorative 3D in-mould-labels which can be applied to the packaging. Herve adds: “Our 3D IML technology, which won the DuPont packaging innovation award in 2013, ensures a unique look and feel with soft-touch effect to the packaging.”
The IML labels are developed and produced in Coveris’ EU Food & Consumer Business Unit in Angoulème (France). The corresponding rigid tubs, pots and lids are manufactured in Hämeenlinna (Finland), Mansfield (UK), Auneau (France) and Ravensburg (Germany). “We are currently expanding our capacity in France to manufacture T-IML tubs for our clients which require more and more packaging with high quality, customized branding options. With our unique IML packaging development capabilities, we offer a truly one-stop service for our clients”, explained Olivier Laigre, Sales Director of Coveris Global Rigid.
With regard to both injection moulded IML (IM-IML) and thermoformed IML (T-IML) packaging, Coveris has a proven record of a number of successful joint developments together with leading FMCG companies worldwide. Several packaging solutions like the new Tesco cottage cheese pot, the new Arla cream cheese lid or Arla’s white cheese pots range were successfully launched on several different markets in recent time.
The unique combination of in-mould labelling and thermoforming even allows labels to withstand the retort process, making T-IML, which won the Packaging Oscar in 2014, a highly attractive packaging solution also for wet pet food and other product applications that require long shelf life.
