Envirotect LLC has chosen, Procorp Enterprises’ Crystalactor Phosphorus Recovery and polishing system to meet their client’s, Guggisberg Cheese, new, <1 ppm Phosphorus wastewater discharge limit. Evaluation and comparison with conventional technology showed the Crystalactor to be both more cost effective and efficient. Specifically the Crystalactor has lower operating and maintenance costs and produces a pellet; that can be sold as fertilizer, instead of sludge.
Currently, Guggisberg treats their wastewater with an Aerobic MBR that was installed by Envirotect almost 7 years ago. The effluent from this system will be treated by the Crystalactor units to reduce the phosphorus concentrations from 100 to <0.5 ppm. Envirotect LLC is scheduled to complete this design build project in December of 2011 allowing Guggisberg to achieve regulatory compliance by year end.
Guggisberg Cheese
Founded in 1968, Alfred and Margaret Guggisberg introduced the world, or at least their community to Baby Swiss Cheese. Today, still under family leadership, Guggisberg continues to grow, selling their award winning products through their stores, and to retail and wholesale customers throughout the United States and Europe. With the acquisition of Deutsch Kase Haus, they have expanded their product line to include Colby, Marble, Yogurt and other stirred-curd cheeses. The state-of-the-art production facility discharges their wastewater to an activated sludge system where it is followed by an MBR. Like many food producers, Guggisberg is facing lower discharge requirements for the wastewater.
