A Kiwi bread with a German name has Kiwified itself to better reflect its New Zealand heritage.
Despite its name, Bürgen® bread was crafted in New Zealand in the early 1980s by Master Baker, Doug Leighton, who wanted to create a breakfast and snack option that was both tasty and nutritionally balanced.
New look packaging that features beautiful and iconic Kiwi images and the latest varietal, Pumpkin Seed & Chia, are now available in supermarkets nationwide.
“Having a real taste sensation when you take that first bite of your morning toast or sandwich is really important. It needs to be delicious but more importantly contribute positively to your overall wellbeing. After all, we are what we eat!” says Mr Leighton.
Responsible for creating classic recipes such as Mixed Grain, Fruit and the popular Gluten Free range, Doug is constantly on the lookout for new varieties that cater for changing consumer needs. Most recently he developed the new Pumpkin Seed & Chia variant.
“Bürgen® has a loyal fan base of customers who constantly tell us how much they love the different flavours and delicious moistness of the loaf which is baked using our unique combination of wholegrains and wholesome ingredients,” says Doug.
Deborah Tudehope, Bürgen®’s Brand Manager commented, “With fifty years experience in the bakery, Doug is an integral part of Bürgen® and he certainty knows how to make a good loaf of bread!”
“Burgen® was made in the style of classic European breads, full of grains and flavour hence the name. More than 30 years on Kiwis have really embraced the taste so we decided that the new look packaging needed to reflect and evoke the ‘Kiwiness’ and vitality of the brand more, Ms Tudehope says.
Bürgen® breads contain healthy unsaturated fat and are free of cholesterol, preservatives, artificial colours and flavours. Also available is the new and improved Gluten and Dairy Free Range.
