Pack Expo 2023: Coesia subsidiaries to display new F&B, pharmaceutical and personal care solutions
01 Sep 2023 --- Coesia group’s booth at the Pack Expo trade show will be structured into three areas – F&B, Pharma & Personal Care and Cross Industry Automation. Various packaging solutions will be presented from the group’s companies: Acma, Atlantic Zeiser, Citus Kalix, FlexLink, Norden and Volpak.
Volpak will exhibit a new Enflex PH-11 DX machine dedicated to the pharmaceutical market. Meanwhile, Acma will introduce novel technologies for liquid filling with LRF Platforms to target personal care, home care and oils.
Coesia focuses on its corporate strategy, called Greenmation, which the group says is a response to consumer demand for reusable and recyclable packaging solutions while manufacturers face labor shortages and increased production costs.
“In this complex situation, Coesia believes that the answer to this profitability-threatening challenge lies in supporting a revolution in production that is capable of combining the principles of automation and sustainability in the industries of F&B, Pharma & Personal Care, and Cross Industry Automation,” shares Alessandro Parimbelli, Coesia CEO.
Volpak Enflex PH-11 DX machine.Pharma packaging
Volpak’s brand Enflex will display the PH-11 DX, a horizontal form-fill-seal (HFFS) machine for single, twin or strings of sachets, at Pack Expo 2023. The machine operates from a single reel of flexible packaging material, forming the pouch, filling it with a product and sealing it.
The new powder dosing system is designed to meet hygiene standards and comply with 21 CFR part 11 requirements, Volpak details. The machine will also integrate Hapa’s latest Web 4.0 5D inline digital printing technology.
“The Web 4.0 5D is state-of-the-art for inline digital printing and inspection of continuous web packaging materials. It reduces project validation implementation efforts and risk while also decreasing installation and commissioning efforts,” elaborates Volpak.
“The line composed by Enflex’s machine and Hapa’s printer is designed to streamline logistics, eliminating the uncertainties tied to the pre-printed foil tied to the pre-printed foil supply chain while maintaining full compliance with pharmaceutical standards.”
The Enflex PH-11 DX is equipped with OptiMate, the Coesia Digital HMI, a control panel that combines ease of use with advanced control functions. OptiMate accompanies and guides the operator in tasks such as format change or machine maintenance while letting them take complete control of the different functions.
“The Pharma flexible packaging industry is currently worth almost 16 billion dollars, with a projected CAGR of 6.5% by 2028, which makes it one of the most dynamic markets in a generally expanding industry,” states Volpak.
“For the flexible packaging industry, the expected growth rate in the next five years is 4.37%. This means a higher demand for flexible packaging solutions for a wide range of drugs, especially in single-use and single-dose formats. This revolves around the ‘quality by design’ concept, one of the main trends in the pharma industry, aiming to make drugs safer and better protected from external contaminants.”
Liquid filling and robotic infeed
At Pack Expo, visitors can experience Acma’s Smart Handling robotic family for analyzing and optimizing the feeding process. Acma Smart Handling robotic family is available in three variations.
The recently developed range of automated and intelligent distribution and feeding solutions is specifically suited to handle spherical or flat-based chocolate pralines or options for the management of different flat products such as bottles, chocolate pralines or bars and soap bars.
The range is available in three variations designed according to the type of product to be processed, how they need to get to the machine, and the production speed of the line being served.
Acma shares that the first is a smart robotic distribution system with multiple industry applications. “Designed with space and energy savings in mind, this multilevel smart system handles chocolate pralines with unusual shapes delicately and precisely. Integrating the electrical components directly into the machine, without additional electrical cabinets, and a single HMI integrated with Coesia OptiMate and PerforMate make it very compact and easy to use.”
The second one, Acma Carousel, is a feeding system also for flat-based chocolate pralines, designed to be compact and with low energy consumption compared to solutions on the market today. “It includes a vision system that scans incoming chocolate pralines, detecting and discarding defective ones, and operating in sync with a robot in charge of correct product orientation,” says the company.
Additionally, VL is the solution designed for spherical chocolate pralines that arrive in the machine from a counterplate. “Developed for the Acma CW 1005 high-speed packaging machine, it is designed for particularly high production requirements without compromise on quality. Speed is its main strength, an aspect that is combined with high reliability and a compact system size.”
