A CONVENIENT, easy-open solution for pouches is now available from Linx Xymark, based on a special variant of the standard Xymark laser coding system. Xymark LC is configured to provide one or more output beams that can score or etch dots onto the surface of moving packaging material. This allows the generation of easy tear perforations for use on sachets and wrappers that are typically made from thin film laminates of polypropylene on paper or aluminium foil. The easy tear perforations reduce the effort needed to open the pouch, giving a predefined straight path for the tear to take, yet retaining the integrity of the packaging. Xymark LC can be integrated into the production process either at the plastic film manufacturing site or directly onto the product filling line, before the slitting machine or pouch forming stations. The positions of the beam output can be manually adjusted to match a particular film artwork or sachet size. One system can provide a maximum of four etch lines. Xymark LC operates at up to 200metres/minute and applies etch dots at between 1 and 10 dots per millimetre.
