Rexam Healthcare Flexibles introduces the next generation breathable pouch. This unique pouch utilizes Rexam’s patented Core-Peel technology, coextrusion coated to polyester and sealed to uncoated Tyvek. “The Core-Peel pouch is the ultimate clean peel pouch,” comments Mike Oberkirch, Marketing Director for Pouches, “providing a particulate and fiber free peel, unlike traditional pouches made with coated or uncoated Tyvek. Pouches made with coated Tyvek are perceived to minimize the risk of product contamination from fiber tear associated with uncoated Tyvek. However, contamination may still exist from particulates generated by the coating. “We are seeing increasing industry attention to the elimination of particulates in the manufacture and packaging of medical devices, particularly for invasive devices such as coronary stents and catheters,“ said Oberkirch. The Core-Peel pouch addresses this concern, and offers a lower cost option compared to pouches made with coated Tyvek.” Core-Peel represents a step change in seal/peel technology. During the sealing process, the Core-Peel™ seal layer imbeds itself into the fiber structure of Tyvek. When peeled, the seal layer breaks through cleanly and offers visual seal transfer for confirmation of seal integrity. By utilizing uncoated Tyvek, the Core-Peel pouch allows customers to use shorter EtO sterilization cycle times compared to pouches made with coated Tyvek. The pouches will be manufactured in a newly constructed “white room” dedicated exclusively to pouch manufacturing in Rexam’s Mundelein, Illinois facility.
