Standox: 50 Years Young – A Success Story.
Standox was launched in 1955, when Dr. Kurt Herberts developed a new synthetic resin paint. The brand name for the new product was a combination of the words stand (oil), a derivative product made from purified linseed oil as a raw material for the paint's production, and oxidative (drying).
Standox was launched in 1955, when Dr. Kurt Herberts developed a new synthetic resin paint. The brand name for the new product was a combination of the words stand (oil), a derivative product made from purified linseed oil as a raw material for the paint's production, and oxidative (drying). This was the beginning of a unique success story that has made Standox one of Europe's leading suppliers and a global brand represented in more than 80 countries. The paint that was launched 50 years ago under the brand name of Standox proved so successful that it rapidly lent its name to an entire range of automotive refinishes. A major step toward a unique brand identity was made in 1966 when a uniform design was applied to all packaging, including the bow tie in the Standox corporate blue color. A major factor in the success of the brand over the years has been its close attention to customers' needs matched by the development of technologically advanced products. Included in these are the 80° hardening coat system, clear over base metallics (1968), hardener 20-80 (1970), Non-Stop filler (1972), blend-in process (1973), 2-pack Compact filler and paint (1979/80), 2K Transparent Adhesion Sealer under the motto "spraying instead of sanding", 2-pack stabilizer for mixing own metallic basecoats (1979), Standocryl® MS process (1982), Stando-test for plastics (1982), MSB process for metallics (1985), waterborne Standohyd® Basecoat System (1994), Exclusive Line™ special paints edition (1995), Standoflash® UV filler (2002) and the Standofleet® refinishing system for commercial vehicles in select countries (2003). Standox was also a trendsetter with its unconventional marketing. In the 1960s, large Standox posters with funny impressions from the daily work of refinishers grabbed attention. In the meantime, they have been replaced by elaborate visuals showing the fascinating world of color and paint. Another tradition that continues is the Standox® calendar featuring amazing visual compositions of extraordinary vehicles in an aesthetic environment.
