Greiner Packaging packs the new product of the popular Irish butter brand in a not-round k3 tub. This premium packaging is a novelty on the market and convinces through its elaborate colouring and its variety of detailed solutions.
Kremsmünster, 12 February 2010. The new packaging for Kerrygold “extra“ is a prime example of the technological performance strength of Greiner Packaging, which is reflected by the individual elements – tub, cardboard wrap, lid and bottom label.
An array of detail highlights
The core element of the new packaging is a white, thermoformed tub made of PP. It holds 250 grams and is enclosed with a cardboard wrap made of recycled cardboard. The cardboard wrap gives the tub stability and protects it from the incidence of light. Its outer surface is printed using six colours. Its inner surface is single-coloured and provides information on environment-relevant aspects regarding the cardboard wrap. It also offers a competition. A three-coloured printed label is attached to the tub bottom. The package is closed with a thermoformed lid made of a printed foil using seven colours.
Project with special challenges
Tobias Strasser, Head of Division K at Greiner Packaging, reports: “One of the central challenges with this packaging project was the fine tuning of colours. The look of various materials, inks and printing methods had to be finely coordinated with each other. With golden and silver shades in particular, this was a thrilling and challenging task.” Greiner Packaging took up this challenge and the short time frame as well. From packaging concept until the first delivery only six months were needed.
Strong, flexible network
The basis for the fast implementation of the packaging project was the long-standing international network within the company. Greiner Packaging uses a rich portfolio of products and technology and operates across all its locations. The tub of the not-round k3 packaging and the lid were developed at different locations at the same time. Intensive project monitoring at the customer’s site provided for the scheduled and timely execution.
