In brief: Packaging machinery
Smurfit Kappa equipped Fée Nature with a fully automatic filling machine for the production of its fresh, lightly-pasteurized organic birch sap. In time for this season’s harvest, Fée Nature invested in Smurfit Kappa’s new BIB 700 automatic machine to increase its production capacity. Moreover, the packaging company markets its Bag-in-Box as a “perfect packaging for this drink,” considering it keeps it fresh during the first 24 months before opening and eight weeks after opening.Smurfit Kappa equipped Fée Nature with a fully automatic filling machine for the production of its fresh, lightly-pasteurized organic birch sap.
Syntegon Technology is set to present its sustainable packaging systems for powder products at this year’s Virtual Show, replacing prominent brick-and-mortar trade shows, such as interpack 2020. The company will premiere its SVE 3220 Doy Zip vertical bagger in combination with Elematic 2001 for powder applications. Syntegon modified the Doy Zip to now process polyolefin-based mono-materials and paper packaging. This enables manufacturers to pack their products in the most popular bag styles, such as pillow, gusseted, block bottom, corner seal and Doy (Zip) bags. Also offering increased flexibility, the Elematic 2001 WAH case packer stands out for its efficient use of packaging materials, including the ability to work with bent blanks in particular. It can now handle up to 100 different case designs with a speed of up to 40 cases per minute.
In brief: Recyclable solutions
Samsung Electronics is set to introduce a new eco-friendly packaging across its Lifestyle TV product portfolio that facilitates easier recycling as well as upcycling of the cardboard boxes for creative reuse. An on-box QR code and a dot matrix design on each side of the corrugated cardboard boxes instruct customers where to cut the boxes more easily and assemble them into various other uses, such as small end tables or houses for pets.Ergonomic and eco-friendly reuseable packaging by Samsung Electronics.
US deodorant brands Old Spice and Secret will arrive at 500 Walmart stores this May in plastic-free, 90 percent recycled, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paper tube packaging. Under the Procter & Gamble Beauty umbrella, the new packaging formats of the two brands address increased calls for recyclable package solutions to slow the onset of plastic pollution in natural habitats.
Children’s nutrition brand Piccolo will be the first to bring a 100 percent recyclable baby food pouch to the European market this summer. This builds upon the success of the company’s launch of a bio-based pouch made with 80 percent plant-derived materials from last year. Piccolo states it also became a carbon-neutral company, addressing the issue of a high carbon footprint associated with baby food transportation.
In brief: New packaging formats
In collaboration with German cola brand Afri Cola, Ardagh Group developed a new returnable 1 L glass bottle in response to rising consumer demand for more glass packaging. The larger format copies the 330 mL glass bottle launched in 2015 and retains the brand’s iconic shape. The white “palm tree” brand logo is printed directly onto the glass using the ceramic screen-printing technique and six-bottle returnable crates will be available in retail, specialist drink shops and wholesalers.My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream in flat-top containers.
US frozen novelty My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream introduced its same-named ice cream balls in single-serve, flat-top plastic containers. Providing consumers a single-packaged mochi ice cream balls ameliorates rising concerns on food safety and food waste, the company highlights. Arriving to retailers throughout the US, the individually scooped packs give consumers more freedom and confidence to “grab-and-go.”
