Innova Market Insight data shows an 8% increase in Hot Drink launches worldwide from October 2020 to September 2025, with 38% of consumers globally prioritizing food quality preservation when buying coffee, making packaging essential. Folded boxes were the most common packaging format for Hot Drink NPD. Worldwide, cartons were the leading packaging material for Hot Drink launches, and the use of bio-based materials is on the rise.

Circular economy: Fiber-based

Innova Market Insights data shows an increase in global F&B launches using fiber-based packaging. Europe led these launches, accounting for 42% of NPD. The Bakery category emerged as the top segment for product launches utilizing fiber-based packaging, while Hot Drinks launches also showed an upward trend in the adoption of such packaging.

Innova Market Insights data shows that 39% of consumers globally say freshness is the aspect that most influences them when buying bread and bread products. Packaging plays a key role in this trend, supporting the increase in global Bakery launches. Recyclable was the leading sustainable claim for these launches, while the use of the Vegetable Ink claim is also increasing.

Innova Market Insights data shows that there was a 4% average annual growth in global F&B plastic packaging launches with a Flexible claim, from July 2020 to June 2025. One in three of these launches were in Europe. Flexible materials (including plastics) were most used in Bakery and Snacks, but their use in Confectionery increased.
