AKW Contract Packing has developed a specialist inspection packaging service that offers UK manufacturers a fast-track route through the ‘stringent’ examination and inspection processes in Japan.
The Manchester-based company said its inspection service allows retail manufacturers to have products quality checked before they are shipped, avoiding the “lengthy inspection process in Japan and potential costs of being held in bonded storage or even rejected and shipped home”.
According to contract packer AKW, the examination and inspection processes of packaging in Japan is “notoriously difficult” and stringent.
AKW works with world-renowned brands such as L’Oreal, P&G, Diageo, Unilever, Kellogg’s and Heinz.
AKW said that it developed the inspection service in close conjunction with UK-based manufacturers and Japanese-based businesses.
‘The smallest dents’
Director and head of contract packing division Rebecca Davies said: “Inspection work can be very subjective, especially when it comes down to identifying the smallest dents in drinks cans or recognising inconsistencies in the colour of packaging.
“However, using agreed criteria, special lighting and pre-approved visual aids, our inspection service has proved that potential exporters should not be deterred by the high Japanese standards.”
As well as highlighting any problems and removing faulty products prior to shipment, AKW said it will also make recommendations for improvements in the production process in the UK to avoid “costly defects”.
