Drinktec 2025 live: Amcor spotlights latest beverage closure design and refillables
Amcor Rigid is presenting its beverage closures at Drinktec 2025 this week. On the show floor, we speak to Sarah de la Mare, director for product management for closures at Amcor Rigid, to learn more about the company’s latest offerings.
“On the stand, you will find primarily our range of beverage closures, whether that be tethered or non-tethered, covering flat caps and sports closures,” De La Mare tells Packaging Insights.
In May, Amcor completed its all-stock combination with Berry Global.
“This is our first event under the Amcor umbrella, and we have the opportunity to discuss Amcor’s wider product offering with customers. We offer bottles, shrink sleeves, and other closures.”
The expert says Amcor Rigid’s solutions are suitable under the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) as they include various different materials within the rigid and flexible packaging divisions.
Sarah de la Mare, director for product management for closures at Amcor Rigid.“We have paper-based solutions and different laminates for flexible pouches within the rigid packaging range. Our products are primarily made from PP or high-density PE. Both of these are fully recyclable,” she says.
“For our customers interested in sports closures. We also offer a fully recyclable thermoplastic elastomer valve solution.”
Sustainable by design
De La Mare tells us consumer demands for sustainable packaging design influence Amcor Rigid’s developments.
“Consumer demand has always been an integral part of the new product development process. When we couple that with the PPWR and the requirements of design for recyclability, it forms the backbone of the new product development process that we have.”
“We make sure our products are recyclable and that they contain as much recycled content as possible.”
Within Amcor Rigid’s packaging, De La Mare sees the downgrading of neck finishes. “That’s driving lightweighting of bottles, free forms, and closures for our customers; monomaterial packages are very much on trend.”
“PCR content is also something that we have conversations about with customers looking into ways to develop food-grade PCR content.”
She notes Amcor Rigid is looking to expand its tethered closures portfolio, adding that customers “are now reflecting on some of the choices they’ve made, and maybe seeing that not all tethered closures are created equally.”
Amcor presents its refillable and reusable solutions at Drinktec 2025.Reuse and refill innovations
Amcor Rigid sees an increasing demand for reusable and refillable packaging solutions, according to De La Mare.
Yet, she adds, “within Amcor Rigid, reuse is still in its infancy.”
“It’s an area of the market that we’re following closely. We’re lucky to be involved in a number of different pilot projects, and where those projects are running.”
She says “it’s encouraging” to observe Amcor Rigid’s consumers adopting refillable and reusable solutions.
“Flexible pouches have long been used for refillable solutions. We see that part of the business expanding as before.”
