A new self-adhesive security labelling solution in the Fasson specialty range

Leiden, The Netherlands - In a world increasingly challenged by counterfeiting and 'inventory shrinkage' – particularly in consumer markets such as pharmaceuticals, tobacco, high-value wines and spirits, the automotive industry, and computers – continuous innovation in security labelling solutions is essential if brand owners are to maintain the integrity of their products. Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe is constantly expanding its portfolio of security labelling substrates, and now brings to market a genuinely innovative self-adhesive ultra-destructible film: Fasson PEHD TE. Avery Dennison Roll Materials Europe were joint developers of the leading-edge facefilm, which represents an overt tamper-evident device with new brand protection functionality, and is offered within the Fasson Specialty portfolio.
Fasson PEHD TE is, uniquely, ultra-destructible by delamination, and the facefilm only fractures once a converted label is applied to a substrate. The facefilm has the look and feel of matt white paper, but it is, in fact, a biaxially-oriented high-density PE film whose highly-cavitated inner layers cause multiple fractures when manipulated, causing delamination, and providing strong visual evidence of tampering. The Fasson PEHD TE self-adhesive laminate combines the white, clay coated, engineered facefilm with a high-performance adhesive, Fasson S700, and a choice of release liners according to label dispensing requirements.
Thanks to its special topcoating, Fasson PEHD TE can be printed and converted by all the conventional print processes – flexo, gravure, letterpress, litho, screen, hot foil stamping and holographic foiling, as well as thermal transfer and dot matrix. On-press stability is aided by the balanced machine
Additional features for the converter are evident at the diecutting station: diecutting is accurate at high speeds, and additional security cuts in the label surface can be achieved with ease. The non-abrasive nature of the facefilm also usefully delivers an extended life for the diecutting tool.
Adhesive Fasson S700 is ultra-permanent, and gives high adhesion values on a variety of substrates. Gum patterns can be supplied to customer order. Together, facefilm and adhesive offer a broad operating temperature window, from -20 deg C to +80 deg C. They resist immersion in water, grease, oil, a wide range of chemicals and the effects of UV light (for longer than 1.5 years in European application conditions) to give reliable tamper evidence in virtually any circumstances.
The Fasson PEHD TE laminate (offered as standard with BG45 release liner) delivers controlled release for effective hand or automatic label dispensing. Overall, the product offers an exceptional cost/performance ratio, with better conversion characteristics than other ultra-destructible films. Its security features can also be usefully enhanced with the addition of taggants, threads, and UV fibres below the film's surface without compromising the performance of the basic laminate.
