Ardagh Metal Packaging acquires share in digital printing startup NOMOQ
01 Mar 2023 --- Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) has acquired a majority share in digital can printing startup NOMOQ, to extend AMP’s support of newcomers in the beverage market.
The Switzerland-based start-up, founded in 2021, is now under the AMP umbrella. It promises customizable printed cans with short lead times and “No Minimum Order Quantity.”
The company’s customer-centric proposition allows beverage companies of every size to produce packs with “almost limitless” color options and photorealistic graphics.
“NOMOQ’s dedication to creating outstanding packaging for customers of all sizes will enhance our ability to serve early-growth customers in the European market and extend our offering to established customers, too,” says Oliver Graham, CEO of AMP.
European expansion
AMP’s acquisition of Quebec-based Hart Print in 2021 allowed the company to enhance its digital print offering to customers in the North American market. AMP’s investment in NOMOQ now provides the platform access to the same cutting-edge print technology to all of its European customers.
“This latest step in our investment program is a perfect fit for us, especially following the successful integration of Hart Print in North America, which encouraged us to seek a similar model in Europe,” continues Graham.
NOMOQ believes metal cans allow for better brand customization. In addition to supporting fast-growing market entrants, NOMOQ enables larger producers to trial new products, implement short-term event-based marketing campaigns, or run special editions with no obstacles on batch size.
“With the help of AMP’s global reach, we can now take our mission to the next level,” adds Peter Stein, founder and CEO of NOMOQ AG.
Customization controls
According to the companies, a higher proportion of European beverages launched in cans than ever. Drink producers are increasingly recognizing their potential for brand-building due to the range of customization options.
“Our ambition since day one has been to help create compelling and unique packaging for all and to make it easy for customers to transform the sustainable and functional beverage can into an ingenious creative canvas even at the smallest batch sizes while delivering the highest product quality.”
AMP calls beverage cans “convenient, lightweight, shatterproof and infinitely recyclable,” leading them to be popular among consumers.
NOMOQ’s aim is making cans into “stand-out works of art.” The company believes it does so through a graphical capacity encompassing millions of colors and shades and several finishes, including matte, glossy or selective gloss.
