At FachPack 2025 in Germany (September 23–25), MM Group is showcasing its consumer packaging solutions, including cartonboard, folding cartons, kraft papers, uncoated fine papers, leaflets, and labels.
Live on the trade show floor, Packaging Insights sits down with Wolfgang Müller, the head of DACH region at the MM Group Board and Paper division, and Mariusz Euskirchen, the company’s key account manager for molded pulp.
Müller highlights MM Group’s new fully-coated virgin fiber cartonboard with a cream reverse side (GC2).
“Alaska Smart is our latest product from the Količevo Mill,” he reveals. “This GC2 board has a nice surface smoothness for high-end and demanding print drops, targeting the OTC sector and the pharmaceutical industry, where you need vignette colors and full ink coverage.”
“We have three mills across Europe, and Alaska Smart gives a really nice position for more demanding print drops.”
He explains that the sites’ strategic positioning means that they are not too far away from their customers, ensuring a low transportation carbon footprint.
Müller says that demand for high-end printing can change depending on the market and the shares’ appearance. It can also vary depending on the brand’s product packaging expectations like “going with more shiny packages and needing a nice surface smoothness, and then changing it back.”
“With our offering, we have always been fit for purpose, products for our customers, supported by our colleagues from the packaging side, we can show what MM Board and Paper can offer to the market, which is also unique in Europe.”
He spotlights MM Group’s leaflet paper, initially developed for the pharmaceutical industry and which is already being supplied to package converters.
“We initially rolled out the leaflet paper in Spain, and now we’ve brought it to more customers across Europe. We are becoming a strategic partner to our customers and a one-stop shop for pharmaceutical converters.”
Molded pulp for luxury items
MM Group’s molded pulp used for luxury fragrance packaging. Also on the show floor, we speak to Euskirchen about the MM Group’s molded pulp, which he says is entirely made of fibers.
“This is cellulose that we produce in our own pulp mill in Poland, where thermoforming also takes place.”
“The main applications that we observe right now are in the food segment; for example, advent calendars for chocolates are very popular. The pulp is also used for premium packaging for fragrances and beauty cosmetics.”
Euskirchen says that there are environmental benefits to using MM Group’s molded pulp. “It can help meet all the requirements linked to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. We can also lower EPR fees, as we help to decrease the cost of the product introduction to the market.”
“While keeping the product sustainable, we assure a high-end packaging personalized based on customer requirements. For example, we can add colors and barriers. So the final product is nice looking, environmentally friendly, and ensures good protection for the products inside.”
MM Group also showcases a product example at its booth — a pulp tray for a fragrance bottle. Euskirchen explains that it is adapted to the shape of the bottle, so that it secures the product.
“It also has the visual effect of making the material look like textiles, so that it creates the effect of fabric,” he concludes. “This makes the product more premium and appealing for the end customer.”
