Flexi-Hex Bottle Box marries recyclability and premium delivery protection using paper honeycomb sleeves
08 Feb 2021 --- Flexi-Hex is releasing its Bottle Box for premium beverage delivery “where strength, beauty and sustainability go hand-in-hand.”
Made from 85 percent recycled content, the paper honeycomb sleeves offer a tape- and plastic-free design. At the top of the box, extended folds slide in between the bottles to create divides and prevent movement in transit.
A soft launch late last year allowed Flexi-Hex to incorporate customer feedback into the recent official launch.
“Good design speaks for itself. We’ve received lots of positive feedback that our honeycomb sleeves are a work of art in themselves,” co-founder Sam Boex tells PackagingInsights.
Customers like Clean.Co and Tarquin’s have already seen breakage rates reduced to less than 1 percent since using Flexi-Hex, saving companies both time and money on returns, as well as improving customer experience.
Designed for online purchases
A soar in e-commerce induced by the COVID-19 pandemic has left few sectors untouched.
Innova Market Insights predicted e-commerce would spur innovation throughout the packaging industry as its third top packaging trend for 2020.
Targeting the premium drinks market, Flexi-Hex notes the growing importance of quality packaging in a world where standing out from the crowd without the retail experience is uniquely challenging.
“Making sure the packaging is made from a strong material that is eco-friendly, effective at protecting fragile, premium goods and delivering a seamless unpacking experience is hugely important,” says Boex.
Cardboard packaging isn’t often associated with being “beautiful.” However, packaging does not need to be glossy or vibrantly colorful to be luxurious. “In fact, we think it’s the quality of the packaging that makes it premium.”
His company focused on making all packaging elements “Instagrammable” and easily branded while ensuring smooth transit and product safety.
Three years of stripping away plastic
Flexi-Hex launched its first bottle packaging product in 2018, targeting single-use plastic reductions throughout the packaging industry.
“It’s fantastic to hear so many people recognizing the positive change so many companies are making, stripping plastic from their supply chain,” says Boex.
The Bottle Box completes the company’s range of protective and sustainable solutions, ranging from luxurious gift capsules to boxes ideal for high-scale e-commerce.
“With the growth of e-commerce, we’re continuing to look into how we can help strip plastic from packaging in other sectors such as cosmetics, electronics and homeware,” Boex adds.
PackagingInsights spoke with the company in late 2019 about its surfboard-inspired origins.
Flexi-Hex works with over a quarter of the UK’s distilleries and is quickly expanding its solutions to Australasian, North American and European customers.
