Greiner Packaging Uses the Decoration Variant of In-Mould Labelling for Different Kinds of Packaging Throughout Europe

03 Jun 2010

Greiner Packaging has been continuously developing this technology for the past few years. Now it is available in many of the enterprise’s European locations.

At Greiner Packaging, the go ahead for IML was given as early as in 2003. Robert Obermayr, Product Group Director K1/K2 at Greiner Packaging, explains: “The biggest benefit with In-Mould-Labelling is the fact that it allows us to achieve an extraordinary look. This technology is used to produce packaging in versatile shapes and to decorate them in one processing stage.”

A cup to pack spread cheese for Milandia (Poland) is the latest IML packaging solution by Greiner Packaging. The cup and the lid are made using IML technology. Greiner Packaging has been continuously developing this technology for the past few years. Now it is available in many of the enterprise’s European locations.

IML for a brilliant look
With In-Mould Labelling, production and decoration are accomplished in a single processing stage. The IML label used for this process covers all or various container walls at the same time. It is possible to produce an all-over decoration of the packaging or partial decoration. IML labels are very robust and resistant to scratching and tearing. At the same time, they can improve the barrier properties of the container. They can be printed using high resolution, hereby yielding excellent visual effects. Both mat and shiny looks can be produced.

IML for many different products
In the meantime, manufacturers of many different products are making use of the benefits of IML. Obermayr illustrates the wide range of application of this technology: “IML is increasingly used in the food area. Cheese, yoghurt, ice-cream, pâtés and salads are the classical products packed in IML packaging. However, non-food producers are increasingly relying on this technology as well.”

IML throughout Europe
The efficient location network within Greiner Packaging distinguishes itself through its high expertise in solutions for development, design, production and decoration. It ensures that today, the IML technology is made available for customers in all parts of Europe. The company’s network structure demonstrates its strengths for major international customers to its full advantage – as it does for national customers, too.
