Kenzo’s “Flower In The Air” Fragrance Cap Surrounded By Dupont™ Surlyn®
The delicate red poppy – emblem flower for all Kenzo fragrances of the “Flower” range - is dressing up in a new way for the recently launched essence “Kenzo Flower in the Air”. The design of the new fragrance cap leaves the common ground of a slender form and is almost circular. Inside there is an image of the blossom petals, surrounded by high-transparent DuPont™ Surlyn®, holding the black pump of the flacon like the flower pistil.
The image that is embedded into the cap, which has a diameter of nearly 7 cm and 8 mm thickness, is visible from both sides.
A challenge within the production of the cap was the need to encapsulate the image between the two Surlyn® parts without damaging the film, to over mold the first Surlyn® part with the smallest adherence zone possible and to hide both injection gates. French packaging company, SAF, strongly represented in the cosmetics and perfumery fields and well-known for its will and ability to innovate, managed to develop a process to over mold the visual thanks to the unique rheology properties of Surlyn®, which can be injected at lower temperature than other plastic materials. “Moreover the DuPont packaging material offers the high transparency that was required,” explains Sandrine Kuntzelmann, sales director at SAF. Finally the design of the closure has been arranged without a visible injection gate and so the blossom appears enhanced and protected within the cap.
