Nano Is New

Referred to by some as the next industrial revolution, nanotechnology is the ability to manufacture by manipulating single atoms or molecules. This relatively new industry harnesses the strange quantum properties found in things smaller than 100 nanometers (1 nm equals one-billionth of a meter) to create unique products.

Laboratories have already produced new super-strength polymers and bandages with remarkable anti-microbial properties. A future development may include the ability to replicate anything, even water and food. ASTM International Committee E56 on Nanotechnology was formed to develop standards for this emerging field.
