Now, a carton for file and yogurt with a new cool feature, a separable state, making it easier to sort and also can help prevent food waste is available. The package is a result of collaboration between Arla Foods and Tetra Pak and will be in stores starting in February.
Most people know that it can be difficult to get the last out of the ketchup bottle or the last out of yogurt containers and in Sweden each year around 30 kg one perfectly edible food per person is discarded.
Arla launches a new yogurt packing with separable top that can help the consumer both prevent food waste and get an easier sorting.
- Today throwing large amounts of food is a waste. Therefore, it is fantastic that we can now launch an improved package where the separable top can do so that you get more content. In addition, it is easier to separate the plastic and cardboard recycling and innovation therefore fully in line with Arla's environmental strategy, said Ann Bergman, Senior Brand Manager at Arla Food Sweden.
The new package is designed so that by pressing in the thumb at the selected perforation, you may gently rotate the top, and then lift the flaps from the bottom so that as much yogurt as possible can be squeezed out of the package. It is then sorted with other plastic containers and the rest of the packaging is recycled paper packaging. The consumer can choose whether the separable function should be used.
In a consumer test a clear majority responded that they were in favor of the new packaging.
- Our consumer test shows that over 80 per cent think it is good to have a separable function, 88 percent feel that they got out more yogurt than when it was in its usual way, and 77 percent said they would recycle more, says Ingrid Collin Hermansson , Manager, Marketing and Product Management, Tetra Pak Sweden AB.
- A so-called "food saving study" done for us shows that food waste was reduced by half when the new packaging with separable peak was used. More yogurt for each individual consumer will be gotten out of the box, due to factors such as habit, handling package, the thickness of the product and willingness to learn a new behavior, says Ingrid Collin Hermansson.
