Benefits of the Advantage MG White Cote GR paper include low basis weights, a spokesperson for the company said. This is because it is made on a machine glazed machine (MG), she said.
A lighter package means less material, in addition to making transport savings for the manufacturer, the spokesperson added.
In line with its sustainability goals, Mondi said only bleached virgin kraft paper from PEFC certified suppliers is used to produce the grade, which it claims does not affect the strength of the paper.
Printability
As well as being highly grease resistant, the new grade also offers a good printability level, according to Christian Skilich, CEO Mondi Kraft Paper.
“The clay coated surface of the paper ensures excellent printability on Flexo printers and thus enables the customer to bring the brand message as well as detailed product descriptions across,” said the company.
Mondi said a special functional chemical treatment of the fibers enabled the high grease resistance level requested by “demanding applications” such as in the confectionery and also pet food industry.
Kraft paper performs well
On the release of its Q1 results at the beginning of this month, Mondi reported a performance improvement in its kraft paper operations.
Kraft paper prices were up in Q1, with further price increases of 7-12 per cent announced to take effect during April 2011, on the back of rising input costs and continued good demand.
Mondi said it was “confident of making further progress in 2011”.
