New Natural Look for PJ Smoothies

07/03/08 One of today's most popular natural fruit-based drink ranges, PJ Smoothies, recently received a label 'makeover' courtesy of label printers Adare and Avery Dennison's Fasson Global Co-Ex self-adhesive films. PJ Smoothies were the original bottled smoothie drinks, dating back to 1994, enjoy a 33% share of the UK smoothies market today, and have a strong reputation for being both wholesome and flavourful.
The label design -- from leading agency Landor Associates, and described by PJ Smoothies themselves as 'funky' projects a whole-earth, natural image with a flecked background that conjures up images of parchment; friendly, informal graphics; and crisp information print and barcode. Different colourways identify the 12 flavour variants for the 250ml single-serving PET bottles.

'The graphics were deceptively simple, but achieving a fresh, natural look especially across the flecked background -- made them quite a challenge. We did all the repro and CTP work in-house, and were able to match the customer's Cromalin 100%! Using high line count anilox rolls to give the best possible graphics, we printed the labels UV flexo in seven colours plus a matt varnish on a Mark Andy LP3000, with Intercolor inks. We used spot colours across the variants, and changed the flecked background on every variant to emphasise the natural-look theme.'
