FachPack 2025 live: ProAmpac spotlights recyclable pouches and fiber-based solutions
ProAmpac is showcasing its portfolio of flexible packaging products at FachPack 2025 in Nuremberg, Germany (September 23–25). On the show floor, the company discusses its recycle-ready pouches for pet nutrition and fiber-based solutions with broad applications in personal care, fresh produce, and food to-go.
The company presents its ProActive Recyclable RT-4000 retort pouches for high performance and filling line efficiency.
“Our RT-4000 range is designed to take our pet food industry, and some human foods, to the next level as far as sustainability is concerned,” Lynsey Maddison, product development director at ProAmpac, tells Packaging Insights.
“The pouches come in a high-barrier or an ultra-high-barrier version, which gives an extended shelf life, more akin to what we see in current aluminum foil pouches. The pouches utilize a monomaterial solution, which means that as long as we wash them, they can be recycled.”
For pouches and other packs with a foil barrier layer, the company also exhibited the ProActive Intelligence Moisture Protect Series.
Maddison highlights that ProAmpac’s pouches can be used for cat and dog food. They come in sizes from 85 g to 150 g. There are possible human food applications, such as microwavable rice pouches.
Fiber-based offerings
The ProActive Recyclable RT-4000 retort pouches designed chiefly for the pet food industry.ProAmpac is also displaying fiber solutions at the trade show, such as the RAP Sandwich Wedge for food-to-go and the ProActive Recyclable FibreSculpt kerbside recyclable trays (in the UK and Ireland).
“We’re still pushing the fiberization of a lot of traditional plastic products,” says Maddison. “We’re enabling our customers to have the choice to either go down a fiber-based or a plastic-based route, depending on which suits their actual end use more.”
Such offerings include standard papers, which can be used for things like toilet tissue wrap, “for which we’ve seen a trend going from plastic back to paper.”
The company also has high barrier solutions, “which are more often utilized for things like butter wrap or powdered products.”
“We also have our stronger products that can pack anything up to 2.5 kg, including things in the fresh produce arena like potatoes, surprising as it is.”
ProAmpac has developed fiber-based packaging for fresh produce by applying a thin PE skin to facilitate sealability.
“They tend to have a modified vertical form fill seal machine, which enables better sealing and less creasing of the paper. But they do an outstanding job within that arena, and give the option to replace standard plastic,” explains Maddison.ProAmpac’s standard flexible packaging range for fresh food-to-go at FachPack 2025.
Fresh to-go packaging
Further discussing ProAmpac’s standard flexible packaging range for fresh food-to-go, in particular the RAP Sandwich Wedge, Maddison says that they are most often used for sandwich wedges, and more recently for cake slices.
“We have a variety of ranges within that, and we are very much pushing for more sustainable solutions.”
“Where you used to see either a full plastic sandwich wedge, we can now replace that with a fiber wedge, with an insert from paper or plastic, depending on where you want to sit within that sustainability range.”
She adds that the range includes solutions for various shelf life lengths. There are offerings for “day fresh products,” which are packed in-store on the day of sale, solutions for products with a seven-day shelf life, and solutions for products with up to 30 days of shelf life.
“It’s a great range of solutions for our customers.”
