Bormioli Luigi creates refillable glass bottle for Sporturno perfumes
Bormioli Luigi has designed a refillable glass bottle and cap for a new perfume collection from the luxury brand Sporturno. Perfumer Christopher Sheldrake created the fragrances.
The 60 mL bottle consists of lightweight glass with sharp angles to create light patterns. It features a screw neck that allows it to be refilled and recycled once the pump is removed.
The glass bottle aims to reflect the elegance and style of the 1920s. It features gold metal printing on the bottle, while the cap is engraved with laurel leaves.
“Both the design of the bottle and cap, and the assembly of the parts, required high standards and precision, as the product is presented in a wooden case with perfectly fitted dimensions,” says Bormioli Luigi.
In a recent interview with Packaging Insights, Simone Baratta, R&D manager at Bormioli Luigi, discussed the qualities of glass for luxurious and sustainable personal care packaging.
“In the beauty field, luxury, and high-end positioning are associated with glass packaging because of the brilliant material, the weight of the elements we have in our hand, the light effect we can have with the glass, and the shape that can be even more complex,” he said.
Infinitely recyclable
Baratta also explained that glass has “intrinsic” sustainability properties.
“It is a completely inert material and is the only material that is fully recyclable infinite times. So this is a very important starting point for a future packaging that must keep the same attraction for the customer, be unique, be recognizable, and be conceived around sustainability principles.”
Recently, the glassmaker equipped Maison Berger with glass for its Echo and Cosy catalytic lamp fragrance diffusers and worked with researchers at Penn State, US, to scale and market Lion Glass, an eco-friendly alternative to standard soda lime silicate glass.
