RPC Containers Corby has devised a complete packaging solution for Pellorce &Jullien, one of France’s leading manufacturers of pasteurised fruit purées. Based in Massy, Pellorce &Jullien has a worldwide reputation for product excellence and today exports to more than 25 countries. In order to meet new packaging regulations for the US and Canadian markets, the company needed to adopt a plastic foodservice jar but it was essential that the selected pack maintained Pellorce &Jullien’s quality, upmarket image. RPC Corby’s solution was its recently launched one litre Thermic Ultra multi-layer polypropylene jar. This features RPC’s registered thermic rib design, which can withstand the high temperatures of the pasteurising and sterilising processes. The special ribs allow the jars to expand during the heating process and then contract to their original shape during cooling, without panelling. With on-shelf image an equally vital requirement, RPC Corby has also devised a crease-free labelling system. Recognising that in some instances the jars may continue to contract slightly after cooling and labelling – which could cause self-adhesive patch labels to crease – RPC Corby approached James Townsend of Exeter, who recommended a plastics wraparound label, spot glued to itself and to the container, and applied by a competitive well-engineered continuous motion labeller, manufactured by Gernep Labelling Systems of Munich. The label ensures that any movement of the jar after labelling can take place without creasing the label, which is also moistureproof. In addition, as the complete pack is made almost entirely of PP, it also fulfils increasing requirements for mono-material recyclability. As well as supplying the jars and recommendations for the labelling system, RPC Corby, together with their processing consultant Les Cles du Développement, also advised Pellorce &Jullien on the filling and sealing operation, to enable the Thermic Ultra jars to be incorporated easily into existing production lines. “From handling through filling and decoration, we can offer a comprehensive support service to enable customers to take full advantage of our Thermic Ultra range as a genuine alternative to glass packaging,” comments RPC Corby’s Sales and Marketing Manager Nick Meyrick. “We are delighted with RPC Corby’s input,” adds Monsieur Fréderic Jullien of Pellorce & Jullien. “We now have the opportunity to maximise our export potential with a jar that reinforces our reputation for quality and innovation.
