Securikett releases “HighContrast” anti-theft labeling technology for screw caps
25 Aug 2023 --- Austrian security labeling company Securikett is expanding its portfolio of tamper-evident sealing for packaging with screw caps. The new designs are intended to prevent product theft, such as illegal refills in reusable containers.
Product packaging with sealing caps and twist mechanisms has always been a special challenge for product protection to prevent consumers from illegal refills, explains Securikett.
For this reason, the Austrian label manufacturer has offered security labels in the refill segment for many years. But due to recent technological developments, the company has implemented its new “HighContrast” technology for screw cap labels in addition to its current line.
According to the company, the security closure labels are especially suitable for tubes, jars and plastic containers with screw or hinged closures. If the closure is unscrewed or flipped open, the label self-destructs along the integrated punching, making an opening clearly visible and making it impossible to stick back or reuse the label.
“If the label is cut open along the closure cap, the security seal will curl. With conventional seals, this type of opening is often not immediately visible to the naked eye. With this seal, you can see this at first glance,” explains Vanessa Mitterer, head of research and development at Securikett.
Fighting product theft
The release of Securikett’s new HighContrast design comes amid a wave of action against product theft and counterfeiting.
In July, the company released its “DiamondVOID,” security label designed to enhance high-quality packaging with non-reversible opening effects for luxury brand owners.
Originally designed for champagne bottles, DiamondVOID integrates opening effects into fully foiled labels for the first time, according to Securikett.
Recently, the Co-op supermarket in the UK began deploying “dummy packaging” to prevent a sharp rise in stolen goods at its stores. The company says the rise is likely due to the cost-of-living crisis caused by inflation.
Now, dummy packs are being used for many higher-value products that the supermarket chain says are frequently targeted by criminals for resale in other local stores.
Products include coffee, washing powder and laundry gel, with shoppers taking the dummy display case to the till, where it is exchanged for the real product.
