A STRETCH blowmoulding machine for large PET bottles ranging from 2 to 6 litres is being launched by Tetra Pak, of Reading. Operating at up to 1,000 bottles/ hour - said to be 20% higher output than similar machines - the single cavity Tetra Plast LX-1 features automatic preform in-feed and blown-bottle out-feed. And through the use of an advanced valve system, blowing and pre-blowing are both time and pressure controlled. Preforms are heated by high power single filament lamps that ensure accurate and consistent wall temperature. In addition, the displacement of the stretch-rod is controlled by a DC-powered servo motor which allows adjustment of bottle specifications without manually changing fixed length stretch rods. Tetra Pak is to open a production facility in Belgium this spring to manufacture Glaskin high barrier protection coated PET bottles.
