The packaging giant recently unveiled new additions to its packaging portfolio at the Angua FoodTec show in Germany.
Food and wine
Speaking at the show, Tetra Pak UK and Ireland portfolio manager Mike Jarvis said: “Globally as well as locally we have been very dominant in the beverage section.
“Our core categories are juice-based drinks and dairy-based drinks. We can see going forward that there is a lot of excitement, particularly, in the food segment and also the wine.
“It’s about taking our knowledge, food safety credentials and expertise in these fields and taking them to new categories where we feel that we could add value to our customers.”
Jarvis said that it will be launching a new wine package in the UK in a Tetra Prisma Aseptic pack. The packaging will be produced in Greencroft, County Durham.
Tetra Pak managing director for UK and Ireland said that Tetra Pak could look at food applications such as tomatoes, soups and hot foods. He said: “If we do it properly it could probably be around 60% of all that we sell.”
DreamCap
Tetra Pak also unveiled new closures at the Angua FoodTec show, including a new cap called DreamCap.
DreamCap has been ergonomically designed with on-the-go-users in mind and incorporates the results of user tests in key markets to deliver a “remarkable” drinking experience, according to Tetra Pak.
According to the firm, the cap’s high neck and its over-the-edge design offer the beverage consumer easy access to the spout and a comfortable fit to the face and lips.
Jarvis said the closure was designed with the consumer in mind. Tetra Pak also identified how people like to drink beverages while on-the-go. He said research included placing a camera onto a pack to see how consumers drank from the closure. He said three types of drinkers emerged – people who suck, pull or pour.
Jarvis said that DreamCap’s large (26mm) opening and ridge to engage the lips allow consumers to drink in the way they prefer, with improved control of the liquid flow into the mouth.
