The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) grants the use of its logo on Duni Corporation food
Cereplast™, Inc., produces BPI-certified resins using a patented and proprietary manufacturing process that incorporates starch and other biodegradable components, including PLA from NatureWorks® LLC.
09/06/06 The Compostable Logo is a joint effort between the U.S. Composting Council and the BPI to identify plastic products which are designed to biodegrade in municipal and commercial composting systems. All products certified by the BPI meet ASTM D6400 "Specifications for Compostable Plastics." They have been tested by independent laboratories and the results have been reviewed by scientific experts in the field of biodegradable plastics.

Cereplast and Duni Corporation, manufacturer of high quality take-out containers and paper products for the foodservice and retail industry, partnered to produce this sustainable take-out packaging, which is 100% compostable, in response to increasing demand for environmentally friendly products by restaurants and consumers. Duni is producing both hinged and two-piece containers made from Cereplast sustainable resin.
Steven Mojo, Executive Director of the Biodegradable Products Institute stated, "BPI is proud to reward Duni and Cereplast’s efforts to develop these food containers. When consumers see the BPI logo, they have third-party certification that the product will not leave any plastic pieces or residues. By continuing to replace everyday plastic items with those that are compostable and sustainable, we reduce waste and make it easier for restaurants and consumers to do their part for the environment."
"We are pleased that BPI has acknowledged our partnership with Duni and our successful development of biodegradable and compostable food containers. With ever-increasing petroleum prices and concerns about resource sustainability, Duni foodservice containers made with Cereplast resins will lead the way in demonstrating that the time is right for retailers and restaurants to think about environmentally-friendly alternatives to disposable plastics," said Frederic Scheer, President and CEO of Cereplast.
Added Mikael Nordin, President and COO of Duni Corporation, "Cereplast’s resins offer a flexible, practical solution for sustainable foodservice containers. Working together, we have created an environmentally-friendly product that will have a wide range of applications and address consumer interest in seeing renewable solutions in food packaging."
