TricorBraun Design and Engineering won two Design Excellence Awards for Hoppe’s Gun Oil Wipes and G Sake at the Graphic Design USA 2012 annual competition. The awards were received in the packaging category. TricorBraun Design and Engineering, Chicago, is a division of TricorBraun, one of North America’s largest providers of jars, bottles and other rigid packaging components. Hoppe’s, a 100 year old manufacturer of gun cleaning products, wanted a decorative tin for gun wipes, a new product. The company stipulated the container have a family resemblance to its other widely-recognized line of gun cleaning products. The TricorBraun designers provided every aspect of the turnkey project including an award winning, collectable tin as well as the wipes. G Sake, a premium sake, was recognized for its unusual, flat-sided bottle. Sake one, brewer of G Sake, wanted a new bottle that distinguished it from competing brands but cost less than its existing bottle. In addition to its striking appearance, the flat sides made it easy to handle. They also keep the bottle facing forward in display racks and reduced the damage that frequently occurs as traditional round bottles jostle against one another in the retail setting.
