    19 Dec 2018 --- Fresh produce packaging supplier StePac has developed proprietary, polyamide-based packaging technology for ensuring long-lasting freshness in long-distance bulk deliveries of blueberries. The new multi-layered packaging, coined Xtend, is the result of several years of R&D and ensures that the high value fruit arrives in wholesome condition, with its natural protective bloom intact – the natural powdery white wax on the surface of the fruit which innately protects the fruit and reduces evaporation. Earlier this year, the manufacturer also launched Xflow, a flowpack solution for blueberries as a cost-saving alternative to traditional preformed bulk packaging.

    14 Dec 2018 --- This week in packaging news, Schreiner MediPharm developed three novel labels at various safety levels for the UV and light protection of particularly sensitive medicines such as biopharmaceuticals and vaccines. Pressure sensitive labeling provider UPM Raflatac’s RafCycle recycling solution has expanded into the US and Canada. Fashion mega-power Chanel has invested in Sulapac, a Finnish start-up that uses a biodegradable and microplastic-free material made of FSC-certified wood chips and natural binders, while Smurfit Kappa Group has significantly expanded its product range in France with the acquisition of Papcart.

  • Mars Petcare to partner with TerraCycle on Europe's first pet-food packaging recycling scheme

    29 Nov 2018 --- Mars Petcare has partnered with recycling expert TerraCycle to launch a free, nationwide pet-food packaging recycling scheme, and is inviting the whole pet care industry to join and extend the impact of the scheme. Led by Mars Petcare brands Whiskas and James Wellbeloved, the program is open to any packaging in the market. The partnership joins a string of recent collaborations between TerraCycle and a number of high-profile companies.
