Fast response, technical expertise and service excellence have characterised the start up of a new Through the Wall (TTW) operation by Amcor PET Packaging Iberia for its customer Persan, one of Spain’s leading manufacturers of detergents and other home care products. The Amcor project is part of a five year contract with a global volume of 170 million preforms for PET bottles in three sizes - 1.5, 1 and 0.5 litres. Amcor worked closely with its customer to create a new dedicated bottle blowing facility adjacent to Persan’s filling operation in Seville, Southern Spain. Managed by Amcor, the TTW facility features a Sidel SB08 s2 blowing machine with a nominal speed of 11,200 bottles per hour. In an example of Amcor’s ability to meet tight deadlines, bottle production commenced within four months on a site that was previously just a crop field. Amcor is supplying preforms manufactured at its plant in Toledo to the Seville blowing operation. The company says the Through the Wall solution offers the added value of easy, convenient service, with bottles manufactured and supplied directly to the customer on demand, a particular advantage for high volume filling operations. “The project will ensure our increasing packaging needs for the concentrate softener line, giving us a remarkable cost reduction,” comments Javier Fonseca, Persan project leader. “After two years’ negotiations with all the Spanish PET packaging suppliers, we chose Amcor due to its competitive and comprehensive proposal and the reliance of its experience and technical capability.” Amcor currently has 17 TTW operations with customers in six countries and the Persan facility joins four others in Spain. Amcor’s extensive experience helps to ensure reliable operation, with a high level of technical support that maintains consistent supplies. “Through the Wall is becoming increasingly attractive as customers recognise that the added value in the speed and convenience of service goes hand in hand with the existing practical and aesthetic benefits of the PET bottles themselves,” comments Jose Antonio Torres of Amcor PET Packaging Iberia.
