Originally launched in New York City, Bulldog Gin is still an independently owned brand which enjoys an enviable position within this highly competitive segment. Anshuman Vohra says: “For branding, I wanted to stay as far away from the traditional heritage angle that other gins played on. Instead I wanted to create a modern, new world gin, one whose personality is driven by the British spirit of defying convention and living life intrinsically. Our namesake is drawn from my childhood hero: Sir Winston Churchill – the original "British Bulldog" and the "Bulldog spirit" he embodied – who happens to be as defiant, confident and rebellious as they come. There was also no question that the bottle needed to be as distinctive as the liquid. I wanted an iconic bottle that would catch the eye of every consumer at the bar and ensure they reconsider gin as a spirit they would drink.”
This ethos has helped Bulldog to achieve impressive growth over the last few years. In 2013, Bulldog was ranked as the fastest growing premium gin in the world by the International Wine and Spirits Research. This is thanks to a clear vision and a bold marketing campaign which is delivered worldwide by the passionate Bulldog team. The gin is available in over 30 countries, the aim being to target over 100 countries by the end of 2015. Vohra concludes: “I want continue to build a brand that will be sold and enjoyed by consumers in many parts of the world. I want Bulldog to be one of the most preeminent gin brands on the shelf.”
