Campina Foodservice, Netherlands, has invested in a Combi-UHT allows almost forty different products to be made through this UHT. The processing time and temperature can be set separately for every product. The new Combi-UHT is a machine that heats the product to extremely high temperatures in a short time. Kees Buijsen, manager of technical services, speaks of a unique installation.
Buijsen: “Actually, the Combi-UHT was built especially for us. We fill our products aseptically giving these products a shelf life of three to six months, even if they are kept outside the fridge. Our new UHT machine is much more advanced than the UHT equipment we had been using for years. The processing is done much more quickly in the Combi-UHT. The main advantage of this is that the product’s flavour is not affected. I can safely say that our cream tastes very much the same as fresh cream.“
Buijsen: “Those extreme specialisation requirements were also included in the list of wishes and requirements that served as a basis in the meetings we had with the supplier of the installation. The R&D department in particular had very much influence in formulating these. Each one of our products has specific production requirements. By translating the requirements and wishes into technical possibilities, the Combi-UHT was actually built little by little especially for Campina Foodservice.
