Wine in cans – This is the innovation which the beverage can producer Ball Packaging Europe and Weincontor Mittelhaardt GmbH will be presenting at this year’s interpack. The new product is called “w.o.i. – wine on ice“, it is the first wine mix drink in Germany to be filled in cans. The new product line comprises flavoured cocktails containing wine: white wine and rosé wine with lemonade and red wine with cola. The carbonated “w.o.i cocktails“ taste fruity with a slight wine aroma and – cooled – are refreshing and not too sweet. The wine mix drink under the registered brand “w.o.i – wine on ice” will be launched in various trial markets in Germany and abroad this summer. As the new drinks have a wine content of more than 50 per cent, they can be sold in cans deposit-free. Using the beverage can as an innovative type of packaging for their products, the winegrowers from the Rhineland Palatinate want to attract new and younger target groups which do not rank amongst classical wine consumers,“ explains Jan Driessens, President of Ball Packaging Europe. “The target group is made up predominantly of urban consumers aged 20 years and older who want to enjoy wine in cans at parties, in hip clubs, on the beach or on other informal occasions.“ “With “w.o.i. - wine on ice“, Weincontor Mittelhaardt GmbH is aiming to develop new business segments on the German and international wine market through creativity and innovation“, according to the managing directors of Weincontor Mittelhaardt GmbH, Curt-Christian Stoffel and Markus Geyer, who will be presenting the new hip drink on the Ball Packaging Europe stand in Düsseldorf (Hall 10, Stand A 44). Weincontor Mittelhaardt GmbH from Bad Dürkheim in the Rhineland Palatinate is a joint venture between the Weinerzeugergemeinschaft Friedelsheim and the Vier Jahreszeiten Winzer eG.
