Emerald Ecovations advances bagasse packaging for food and pharma

Emerald Ecovations has developed a packaging board material derived from bagasse and fibers certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The packaging material is suitable for use in pharmaceuticals, food packaging, and other consumer goods.
Headquartered in Huntington, US, Emerald Ecovations manufactures “tree-free, plastic-free, and toxin-free” solutions for the foodservice and janitorial industries.
“Consumers aren’t asking for change anymore — they’re demanding it,” says Ralph Bianculli, CEO at Emerald Ecovations.
“When shoppers have a choice between traditional packaging and responsible packaging, they overwhelmingly choose the sustainable option. The problem has always been access. Today, that barrier is gone.”
Bagasse gains traction
According to Emerald Ecovations, the board material is designed to be PFAS-free and compostable, enabling circular end-of-life pathways.

Bianculli adds: “As regulations tighten and consumers push for transparency, packaging is becoming a brand statement. This board gives CPG companies a clear, credible way to lead.”
Bagasse-based packaging is gaining momentum globally. At the World Economic Forum 2026, materials from sugar cane bagasse were highlighted as a key opportunity for low-carbon packaging production.
Recently, Sabert and Colpac rolled out the PulpUltra 95% bagasse fiber-based packaging range across the EU and the UK. Revolution Foods introduced compostable school lunch packaging from bagasse in California, US. The Indian packager Pakka also uses bagasse to produce home-compostable solutions for food applications.
