FrieslandCampina Kievit recognised for innovative technology
FrieslandCampina Kievit, an operating company of the Ingredients business group, has been recognised for a breakthrough in encapsulation technology. FrieslandCampina Kievit has developed the technology and an ingredient, allowing polyunsaturated fatty acids that do not contain any proteins or other dairy components to be added to baby nutrition.
Until now, a major problem for baby formula manufacturers has been that the formula, which contains specific fatty acids, became unstable when it was exposed to air (oxidation). With the encapsulation technology used in Vana-Sana DHA 7 IF protein-free, for example, fatty acids can be encapsulated so that the product remains stable for longer. The polyunsaturated fatty acids that can be incorporated into baby formula using this technology are essential for a healthy diet and growth.
FrieslandCampina Kievit is one of the operating companies of FrieslandCampina’s Ingredients business group. This business group is a global player in ingredients used by producers of food, special nutrition and medicines. In 2008, the business group reported revenue of EUR 1.4 billion. The Ingredients business group aims to achieve growth by creating new opportunities in ingredients. Encapsulation technology plays an important role in the group’s growth plans.
