Indian whisky gets sleeved

Two Sleevit applicators from Turpins Packaging Systems' newly-introduced SleeveMaster range have been installed at the Hyderabad distillery of McDowell & Company to provide tamper-evident protection for McDowell No 1 Classic Whisky, reportedly India's fastest-growing whisky. McDowell already has two Sleevit machines at its Nasik distillery providing tamper-evident protection for Bagpiper Whisky, the largest-selling Indian whisky, and apparently the world's third largest seller.

The SleeveMaster + machines in Hyderabad apply printed sleeves to 180 and 375ml bottles at 300/min and 120/min, respectively, while those at Nasik sleeve 180ml bottles at 250/min. Turpins offers two tamper-evident applicators, the SleeveMaster entry model suitable for unprinted tamper-evident sleeves at moderate speeds and the SleeveMaster + range, which includes power unwind as standard and print registration options, for high-speed lines with printed sleeves.
