Multisorb Technologies will be exhibiting sorbent solutions for fresh and processed meats at the Annual Meat Conference in Orlando, Florida, on February 19-21, 2012, the company announced. Multisorb prides themselves on providing customized sorbent solutions by working closely with their customers to understand their specific needs. Calculations through Operations™ program is used by Multisorb to aid with their consultative approach for meat products.
Calculations through Operations™ takes a holistic approach to preserving quality by providing consultation from packaging through sorbent dispensing. Multisorb’s experienced packaging scientists will evaluate your entire product, i.e., the food’s physical characteristics, packaging data, the packaged product’s residual moisture and oxygen, and the distribution and storage environments throughout its expected shelf life. Using this information and knowledge of the food’s typical pathways for degradation and spoilage, Multisorb’s scientists will recommend an optimized sorbent solution – a specialty desiccant, moisture regulator, oxygen absorber, hydrocarbon absorber, or a combination product.
To round out the system, Multisorb’s dispensers are paired with their strip format sorbent counterpart, to provide ultimate reliability and precision insertion. The dispenser utilizes a smart dispensing technology to record data from each spool of sorbent. This data, which includes date of manufacture, lot number, spool number, and number of packets left on spool, can be incorporated into your quality control system. The system can even notify operators when the spool is about to run out or if a splicing station is used, when a splice is needed for continued operation.
MAPLOX™ Extends Shelf Life of Fresh Meats
MAPLOX™ program is a low oxygen modified atmosphere packaging program for whole muscle meats, ground beef, and value-added meat products like kabobs, sliders, and meatloaf. By using the MAPLOX™ program, color and freshness is retained while shelf life is increased by 21 or more days.
With the MAPLOX™ program, packaged fresh meat products are placed into a mother bag with a pre-activated, specially formulated FreshPax® CR oxygen absorber – a FreshPax® CR dispenser is also available for automatic insertion. The mother bag is purged with a tri-gas mixture and sealed. Oxidation of the lean protein is eliminated, resulting in longer shelf life. When the mother bag is opened, the meat will rebloom, giving consumers the bright color they have come to associate with freshness.
Processed Meats Benefit from Active Packaging Technology
Multisorb’s optimized sorbent solutions are ideal for processed meat products. Whether it’s pepperoni, beef jerky, deli meat, or even meaty pet treats, Multisorb can design an optimized solution to eliminate oxygen and manage moisture. The result is retention of color and better flavor for far longer in distribution. Additionally, there is no longer a need for preservatives to fight rancidity and mold growth. Using an optimized solution not only extends shelf life, it saves money.
