Packaging Innovations 2022: Aegg to present Plastic Packaging Tax-compliant F&B solutions
13 May 2022 --- At Packaging Innovations 2022 in Birmingham, UK, Aegg will be showcasing its new range of plastic packaging tax-friendly food packaging and five new off-the-shelf spirit bottles, alongside its premium range of food jars and soft drinks bottles.
The company’s new range of tax-friendly solutions include its three new recycled PET (rPET) food pots: the 135 ml heritage milk churn, the 230 ml tulip bowl and the 255 ml full tulip bowl. All include 30% recycled material, making them tax-exempt.
In April 2022, the UK Government brought in the Plastic Packaging Tax, enforcing a £200 (US$245) per ton penalty on plastic packaging that does not contain at least 30% recycled plastic.
Aegg will be exhibiting at stand D10 on 25-26 May, 2022, at the NEC Packaging Innovations event.
Recycled plastic pots
Originally available in widely recyclable PET, Aegg highlights that its three rPET pots are “even more environmentally friendly” by using more recycled material.
The company explains that the rPET can handle temperatures up to 55°C and down to -20°C, suitable for ambient, chilled and frozen foods. Aegg is also working on additional rPET concept food pots and can produce bespoke rPET items for its customers.
The company will also showcase its lightweighted PP products, taking up to 30% of the weight out of some of its PP pots, such as its tumbler, reducing both the cost and tax liability of the packaging without compromising the functionality.
Currently, recycled PP is not widely available and carries a high premium, making Aegg’s lightweighted PP products more cost-effective, asserts the company.
Glass packaging
Aegg also supplies glass jars and bottles, which the company says has increasingly enjoyed consumer popularity during the pandemic, while consumers cooked more at home.
Adding to its range of glass packaging, Aegg has introduced five new glass spirit bottles aimed at artisanal spirit producers, core spirit brands and supermarket brands.
The five premium flint spirit bottles are exclusive to Aegg in the UK, feature a cork finish, and each hold 70 cl. The custom-designed traditional look with a modern twist makes these bottles ideal for whisky, gin, vodka and rum, although their versatile design appeals to most spirits categories.
The off-the-shelf spirit bottles range can be further tailored for more bespoke designs, including embossing, debossing, frosting, screen printing and color spraying. The glass spirit bottle range is fully recyclable and reusable.
Aegg’s managing director, Jamie Gorman, says: “We will have a wide range of our packaging solutions on show at our stand, supplying packaging for water, soft drinks, tonics, fizzy drinks, soups, sauces, vinegars and oils, preserves, spreads, desserts and starters.”
“With the recent Plastic Packaging Tax rules, the [Packaging Innovations] trade show is also a great opportunity for us to chat to food manufacturers and retailers about the different solutions we can offer to make their packaging more tax-friendly, with our range of recycled content rPET food pots, lightweighted PP food pots and recyclable glass jar and bottle options.”
