Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky has been given a packaging overhaul as part of a makeover of the brand identity stressing its Orkney roots and Viking heritage. The packaging incorporates a wider bottle, a metallic label design that complements the glass embossed with a contemporary logo and a premium “Torq” closure. Brand director, Jason R. Craig, said: “We had to create a new bottle and carton design which would explain our Viking bloodline and why we are ‘The Orkney Single Malt with Viking Soul’. The inspiration for the design came from an ancient Stavkirke or wooden church, a world Heritage site in the Norwegian village of Ornes. The result is a beautiful, heavily embossed bottle featuring an illustration which depicts an ancient Viking legend of a lion locked in a battle with the forces of evil in the form of serpent-like dragons.”
The new carton also depicts the lion and dragon legend with embossed metallic detailing while communicating the message “Made with Pride on Orkney” on the side. Each variant has a sub-brand name – Viking Honour for the 12 Year Old and Viking Pride for the 18 Year Old – to give them a stronger identity and as a tribute to the pioneers who originally settled on Orkney. The new look Highland Park 12 Year Old is available while the updated 18 Year Old will be released later in the year.
